Balsall Heath Extended Schools Provision

Services are being developed in Birmingham within the framework of Every Child Matters (ECM). Clusters of schools and other agencies (including the voluntary sector and the community) recognise that to help young people achieve their potential, they must work together, and in partnership, with young people and their families, to help meet not only the school’s objectives but also to share in helping to meet the needs of each young person, their family and the community.

Since September 2007, schools in Birmingham have been working with multi-agency partners in their Extended Service Cluster to provide young people and their families’ access to the Extended Services Core Offer.

The Core Offer may be delivered on a school site or by sign posting to other providers in the area. It includes:

• Primary schools providing access to high quality childcare and a varied menu of out of hours activities.
• Secondary schools providing a safe place to be and access to a varied menu of out of hours activities
• Access to parenting
• Swift and easy access to specialist services
• Schools ensuring that they provide community access to appropriate facilities
