Baby Matters is a group for new mothers and their babies. The idea behind the group is to help empower the mother to inspire the child and have a positive start to life.

The outcome that we work towards are practical and relate to knowledge and skills that will enable parents in the area to become more confident.

The group is a weekly session which begins with a healthy lunch followed by a session for parents and their babies up to 1 yr old.

The group is designed to support you thoughout the first year of your baby’s life. Various workshops are designed to meet the needs of the parents, allowing them to take away information and incorporate it in their daily life.

The Baby Matters sessions aim to:

Increase parental confidence and skills in early parenting.
Encourage bonding between parent and baby
Encourage parents to share their own knowledge and experiences within the group
Enable parents to introduce play in the family
Make parents aware of dangers babies may come across

Activities covered in Baby Matters are:

Baby Massages Course – A 4-week programme to show correct technique of massaging your baby. This helps reduce colic and bring parent and baby together. Parents are provided with oils and towels.

Weaning – Parents are given information and recipes to start the weaning process for their baby. Parents are then provided with a starter kit containing weaning bowls/spoons.

Bottle to Cup workshop – This workshop gives ideas of how to make the transition from bottle to cup as smooth as possible for your child. Parents are provided with their first cup for their baby.

Oral health – This is a small workshop which looks at hidden sugars in food and drink that your baby/child will consume as they grow up. It gives you an idea of what to look for on food labels.
The follow-up to this workshop looks at teeth and how to maintain health teeth; parents are provided with a toothbrush and paste as a starter for your baby.

Music session – This allows the opportunity to explore new musical equipment, interacting through singing as a group.

First Aid courses – Trained staff from British Red Cross are run a 2-week programme in First Aid and parents that have taken part are rewarded with a certificate once completed.

Baby Matters also go on trips and outings and have visited Blakesley Hall, NEC Baby Show and the Sea Life Centre.

We welcome views from users to help to improve the group and regular feedback is asked from parents to do so.
