26 Years of Neighbourhood Watch & Still Going Strong

Local resident May Pearson had cause for a double celebration recently. For the last 26 years May has been a member of the Brunswick Road Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and in recognition of her contributions to improving safety in Balsall Heath was presented with an award.

Georgina Johnstone, Community Partnerships Officer at Belgrave Road Police Station presented May with a special certificate and thanked her for all her hard work. Georgina said, “May has been a wonderful Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, she keeps me informed of everything happening in the area. The information she has provided has aided many officers in their work. May has many stories to tell about the work she has done over the past 26 years, including meeting the Duke of Edinburgh and David Cameron. We are not the first to award May for the work she has done, her wall is decorated with various awards for her contributions to the community.“

May who was overwhelmed with the award said: “It will take pride of place in my house. I am very grateful for the award and hope that my contributions over the past 26 years have made a difference in my community. I have worked with many police officers over the years, all of whom have been very supportive of everything I have done and continue to do“.

This award helped make a special day even more special as it was presented to May on her 86th birthday. The Heathan would like to take this opportunity to thank May for all of her years of helping us with our deliveries and to wish her a very, very happy birthday. Congratulations May.

Prior to May’s birthday she suffered an illness that left her in need of help. It was during this time that May noticed how difficult it was to find any services for the elderly in Balsall Heath.
