Valentine’s Day Blessing

Members and staff of the Apna Ghar Asian Elderly Day Care Centre celebrated the receipt of a new mini bus on Valentine’s Day recently. The new bus, which is the 4th that the group has bought since they began in 1985, cost £36,000. All of the money that was used to buy the bus was raised through the group’s fund-raising efforts over the last ten years.

It is intended that the new bus will help continue the tremendous work the group does, by providing the centre with additional transport for the elderly who attend Apna Ghar. Money for the bus was raised by selling catering services and by selling Day Care Centre Services to local authorities outside of Birmingham, and so providing a service to Elderly Asian people from all over the city. The service is popular because it caters for the cultural, religious and dietary needs of elderly Asian people. Manager of Apna Ghar, Babu Patel, said of the event, “This is a great occasion for us and I would like to thank everyone involved in raising the money especially my staff and the management”.

As well as catering for the people who attend the centre, the centre also welcomes elderly Asian visitors who would like to try their meals during the lunchtime period between 12.30am and 1pm. Vegetarian meals cost £1.50 while non-vegetarian meals cost £1.75. In addition Apna Ghar’s catering service can provide food for any social occasion and can cater for up to 150 people.
