Young people from across the cluster primary schools have had increased opportunities to access fun activities over the summer as part of a full programme delivered by the cluster.
Tindal Primary School played host to a Sports Day and Creative Arts Day as part of this programme and 75 children attended across the two days.
The weather was kind to us on for the sports day and activities included football and cricket skills, Salsa dance and self-defence, a new one for the cluster. The children were able to move around the activities throughout the day.
All activities were popular and children were heard to say “I really liked working with the group doing felt-making, I wish we’d had more time!” and “Sports Camp was great, I made some new friends”
The Arts day involved children staying in one group and working on a ‘project’ for the morning then working towards a ‘show case’ of the work produced. This included a short ‘play’, supported by The Playhouse which the children formed the ideas, developed the characters they wanted to play and then performed the piece in front of the whole group.
We had a group of ‘Street Artists’ and while a few struggled with the actual spraying the whole group worked hard at the design and the final piece will be displayed at the Venture (St Paul’s Trust), as this group all came from the Play Scheme.
Other children had the opportunity to experience making felt and producing hats and coasters. We had a media group that formed the basis of reporting and evaluating the whole day. They developed skills of writing questionnaires, taking photographs, interviewing and recording other children and then creating a display and newsletter for the cluster.
Alison Moore, the cluster coordinator said, “They were two very full days but great fun was had by all and it was especially amazing to see that the children could concentrate and produce such great projects. All the children had a part to play, however small which made the day inclusive for all.
