As part of our celebration of the Trust’s 30th birthday, a special balloon race was held. One thousand balloons with the names of local school classes, residents and supporters were launched on 16th October by the Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Michael Wilkes and the Deputy Lady Mayoress Vivienne Wilkes.
By 14th November, 45 of the labels had been found and returned with details of where they had been landed. Most of the balloons travelled south, the furthest of which got to the middle of Spain!
Commiserations to class 4H from Clifton Primary School who managed to travel just 4.34 miles, but congratulations to the Turtles, also from Clifton whose balloon travelled a staggering 844.41 miles!
You see the complete list of returned labels and the distances they travelled on the Balloon Map.
