Tiny Children in ProcessionThe 2011 Balsall Heath Carnival was truly tea-mendous!

The ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ themed event in Pickwick Park, St. Paul’s Road was attended by over 5,000 local people who enjoyed visiting the many stalls, riding on funfair rides and eating delicious food. The home grown entertainment was provided by local people keen to show off their talents. The Carnival Procession left Balsall Heath Park at 12.35 and arrived to cheers and applause in Pickwick Park at 1.45. Over 300 people took part in the procession which made it the longest and most colourful for many years.

This years judges, Danny Bailey, Anne Malloy and Anne Malik were unanimous in their decision to crown Clifton Primary School as the wining procession entry. They congratulated all the participants, especially Nelson Mandela School who took part in the procession for the first time.

The Carnival Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make the Carnival so successful. Without the support of volunteers offering their support with everything from putting up gazebos at 6.30am through to litter picking at 7pm it simply would not be possible to put on such an event. The Committee are also grateful for the generous financial support from the Community Chest and the West Midlands Police.
