The Government has devised a new scheme called the Future Jobs Fund. This is aimed mainly at giving younger workers a start in getting on to the job ladder. The scheme creates jobs, which last 26 weeks and are funded by the Government. Hopefully, the new jobs give people some up to date on the job training, references from an employer (our Trust), and good advice from all at their departments! For some people it may be their first job, and others it will be the first for a fairly long time.
Meanwhile, its thanks to Elaine and Carrie who have taken on the work of managing the scheme for the Trust. They have challenging targets to meet, which include placing 100 people in jobs in the first six months. It all started in mid-October. Elaine and Carrie have now placed 67 people in jobs.
Not all the new jobs are at St. Paul’s by any means. All sorts of other charities, schools, nurseries, Children’s Centres, etc. are working with us on this scheme. This means that of the 100 new jobs about 70 are in other organisations. The Way Ahead team are all working hard on this, too, being mentors for the new workers, and helping them to take on board the induction training. Later, they will help with preparing CV’s and looking for career progression for the workers. Twenty-six weeks is not long, but will take us through to next spring when the job market may have improved. With everyone’s support our new colleagues may be able to move on and up.
