William Cole was the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer as well as being fourth batsman; he is third from right on the front row of the team picture. They originally played in navy blue and white but feeling they needed more distinction they later added a “Cambridge” light blue to the colours. Fixtures were strictly friendlies at first and they proved a hard team to beat, in 1926 they played 27 matches – winning 22 and drawing 2 of them, with only 3 defeats. Competition became harder over the years as they joined the Parks Cricket Association in 1928 which offered more testing opposition.

The club’s evening meetings were all held in Balsall Heath: named venues were the members’ houses and include 39 Harbury Road, 182 Mary Street and 5 Beaconsfield Road. By 1932 they had acquired a permanent club room at 95 Mary Street. The minutes book ends in 1933 and we do not know how long the club continued for after that.
The Society always welcomes donations on any aspect of Balsall Heath’s rich and varied history. If you would like to make a donation you can contact Chris Sutton (0121 464 1890)
