Day 1 – 15th July
We are two rabbits who are having a holiday on ‘The Farm’ at St Paul’s Trust while our owner has to spend a few days in the hospital. Hywell came to collect us today and we had our bags packed ready and waiting with our food, straw and hutch. We are so excited. We have visited the farm before and have always been well looked after. We were able to spend some time in the play scheme where the children enjoyed stroking us – We like the fame!
So Hywell has settled us in to our holiday home. We have been munching on the lovely grass and enjoying the rare sunshine we have in England. We are house rabbits but like to spend time just outside. Hopefully we will have lots of visitors during our stay. Please come and see us if you have time and say Hello.
Day 2 – 16th July
Its the second day of the holiday and typical of the weather it has rained most of the day and ruined most of the day. We managed to get out for a run for a short while and we met lots of visitors and group of young people who attend a Saturday Club run by Resources for Autism. Its great to get some attention and it looked like they were having a great time. It is hard to believe there is an urban farm in the middle of Birmingham. Anyway we are happy to be inside as our neighbour is lovely. Her name is Susan and she is proud mum of seven, having recently had her litter. Here is a picture of one of the babies.
They will stay with her for about 6 weeks when they will be fully weaned, then the farm need to find a good home for them all. I know Alison who visits, has took a shine to two, for her grand children.
Day 3 – 17th July – Another rainy day on the farm
We have been able to get out in our run for a short while. It is important that we get fresh air everyday and get a chance to stretch our legs. It’s the same for you isn’t it? You need to get excercise to keep healthy, so don’t forget to get yourselves outdoors as often as possible. We are happy having our hutch in the classroom. We are in seperate hutches for sleepiong. rosie is such a figet (but don’t tell her I told you). We like to have our hutches facing each other though so we can see each other during the night.
Day 4 – 18th July
We met Patrick today. He is looking after us today. He brought us our breakfast and fresh clean water. This is very important for rabbits.
He made sure the larger run outside had a secure cover on so the other rabbits wouldn’t jump in. They all come and visit us though as they are inquisitive and want to see who is visiting, it is their home after all and we are lucky we can stay here for a while. Looking forward to the children visiting from the after school club. We like to have company and plenty of visitors.
It’s a sad day today though on the farm as the ram was taken ill during the night. The vet was called and thought it best put him to sleep. We understand he had been at St. Paul’s a long time so will be missed by everyone.
Day 5 – 19th July
The farm is feeling like home from home, it’s a great holiday so far. We met Claire today who is looking after us. She calls herself ‘The Rabbit Lady’ and is very good at looking after us. We like to be talked to regularly and held and stroked. It is very comforting specially when being away from our owner, who we send our love to while she is hospital. We know she is also getting lots of visitors, which is good to hear.
Our bed has been changed (always a sign of a good hotel) I had heard Rosie had made a bit of a mess with her food – a bit embarrassing. I’ll have to have a quiet word with her later. We don’t want to be asked to leave do we?
