Some of the volunteers visited the BBC for free Citizen Journalism training and a tour of the BBC. They learnt lots of useful skills about editorial guidelines and interview techniques. In the afternoon the volunteers were given a guided tour of the BBC and shown round the tv and radio studios. We also were part of a live radio feedback as George Osborne announced an extra £7bn of welfare cuts, with one of the volunteers asking “What are the implications for cutting universal benefits for carers?!” There was a chance to sit on the BBC West Midlands couch and have a go at reading the news and weather.
The Citizen Journalism training was run by the BBC and is part of a Living Streets funded project that is delivering a host of workshops to create community champions and empower people to make positive change in their communities.
