INCLUDING WOMEN! Is a network organisation, which works to link groups, which have women members (or among their members). The aim is to look at issues that especially affect women and their families and to try to bring groups together to make improvements. Domestic violence is one such issue, and Including Women! Are creating a Sparkbrook Forum to look at how the issue can be tackled and how groups can work collectively on this.

This month Womenzone looks at the achievements of women throughout the world as part of the celebrations taking place for this year’s centenary International Women’s Day. Organised by Including Women, Saheli Women’s Group, Birmingham Link, Midland Heart, Balsall Heath Children’s Centre. Ashiana Community Project, St. Paul’s Community Development Trust and Heart of Birmingham Primary Care Trust, this year the theme for the event is ‘Inclusion’.

This month Womenzone celebrates the giving of the Youth Acheivement Award to its former editor, Ally Sultana following her determined campaigning with the Including Women organisation against domestic violence. An in-depth look at ‘Girls In Action’ provides an insight into why the girls only group is such a success and continues to grow, while a focus on Balsall Heath Children’s Centre shows how parents and children are finding ways of creatively expressing themselves.

In this edition of Womenzone the magazine celebrates the 99th International Women’s Day and provides a taster of the days main events for those women who were unable to attend. Both young and older generations can find articles that examine some of the key issues in women’s lives today and a look at maternity and women’s health provides an opportunity to join an influential independent think tank aimed at improving health care for women.
