We are working with the Census Engagement Team, who will be hosting a workshop to help those who are yet to or need a little extra help to complete the 2021 Census.
The session will be held at Balsall Heath Children’s Centre (10 Malvern Street, B12 8NN, next to Balsall Heath City Farm) on Tuesday the 27th April between 11:00 and 15:00.

Adults with poor literacy skills struggle with employment, social inclusion, social mobility, self-esteem and struggle to support their children’s learning. And so, the long tail of disadvantage continues from one generation to another.

The four core values, developed by staff from The Springfield Children’s Centre and St Paul’s Trust Children’s Centre, represent the way parents, staff and volunteers come together to provide children with the best start in life.
On a cold and wet Wednesday afternoon, during half term, we were delighted to help Smartlyte Ltd with their event at the Balsall Heath Library.
Smartlyte’s, ‘Families Learning Together’ workshop, helped families to raise awareness of the dangers of online illegal money lending and loan sharks. Families heard the story of how Amsty; an old computer who lives in the Library, scared away Mr Loan Shark with the help of his friend Mrs Anti.
Our free first aid course for parents will be starting again next week in partnership with Smartlyte.
The 4 week course will be running at Malvern Street, starting Friday 10th May and Braithwaite Road, starting Monday 13th May.
Come along to Balsall Heath Library on 16th March, 11am - 1pm to look at some photographs taken by local women about food in Balsall Heath Children can take part in free activities around healthy eating and reading too.
We are absolutely delighted to share that our joint project with Smartlyte: ‘#Get Balsall Heath Reading’ scooped first prize in the Nursery World Awards, 2018 in the ‘Working with Parents’ category. Our entry was one of five shortlisted finalists. Despite the stiff competition our joint entry came out as a clear winner! It was great to receive our award and certificate in a glittering ceremony, held in London on Saturday.

This is the second consecutive year ‘#Get Balsall Heath Reading’ has been nominated and shortlisted and is huge recognition of the impact and success of the parental engagement work it is achieving.
Thanks to all the families, staff, volunteers and partners who came along to Sparkhill Park on 23rd August to join in the fun at our local launch of Birmingham Forward Steps. In Partnership with St Paul's Trust, we ran egg and spoon races, built a pirate ship out of recycled material and even said hello to the Bookstart Bear.
Last week, we were delighted to host our ‘Families Voices’ Consultation Event at Balsall Heath Children’s Centre, in partnership with St Paul’s Development Trust and Smartlyte.
The consultation was arranged as part of “The Community Cohesion strategy for Birmingham – Forward together to build a fair and inclusive city for all” outlines Birmingham City Council’s commitment and approach to promoting cohesion. The city consultation sought opinions and feedback via an online questionnaire.
Hall Green District launched their Holiday Kitchen Program on Saturday 28th July, at St Paul’s Trust Children’s Centre, Malvern Street, on the farm site. It was a resounding success with 82 children and parents attending.
Families were able to join in cooking a three course meal together, offering a variety of healthy choices including plenty of fruit and vegetables
